There's no getting away from the Penn State conversation. In the newspapers, on the radio, around the water cooler, it's been everywhere. It's even been fascinating to see the conversation taking place on the FB feeds of the college aged people in my life. They are truly trying to figure it out and are having some back and forth about it. Never a bad thing.
Me? I keep coming back to the fact that the victims here are the YOUNG boys and there were no adults willing to step up and protect them. When it comes right down to it, I don't give a shit about Joe Paterno. He's done good things for Penn State but since I don't care much about football even that doesn't impress me. What does negatively impress me is the fact that he, and many others at Penn, knew Sandusky had a history of sketchy behavior around boys and they continued to turn a blind eye...all to save the Penn football juggernaut. It first came to light in 1998, 13 years is a long time to pretend something isn't happening. All these macho football men didn't have the cojones to honestly confront a criminal. It's sad and stomach churning.
